Abstract

This study aims to determine the educational foundations that exist in MA Sabilunnajah Watutulis and the role of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) method in learning history in order to instill character values in students at MA Sabilunnajah Watutulis and to find out the students' character created after using the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) learning method in history subjects during teaching and learning activities in the classroom. This study used descriptive qualitative method. Data collection is done by way of observation, interviews and documentation. Data analysis using data triangulation, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study show that the foundations of character education at MA Sabilunnajah Watutulis include the foundations of human philosophy, the foundations of Pancasila philosophy, the foundations of general education philosophy, the religious foundations, the sociological foundations, the psychological foundations, and the theoretical foundations. The implementation of character instilling in class IX students at MA Sabilunnajah Watutulis is carried out in history subjects where the teacher relates certain historical material presented, one of which is material from the moments of the Indonesian proclamation using the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) method. The characters that are formed in students through historical learning are religious values, nationalist values and sociological values
