Abstract

This research was conducted to develop the students’ speaking ability using tour guide technique as a method in teaching speaking of descriptive text. The research was intended to describe the appropriate way in using tour guide technique in teaching speaking of descriptive text at the tenth grade students of SMAN 1 Wonoayu. The researcher collected the data by doing the observation. The researcher as observer who observed the teacher’s and the students’ activities in the classroom speaking. This research was conducted in two meetings. The data of the research were gathered through following instruments: observation checklist, questionnaire, and documents. The subjects of the research were 35 students of SMAN 1 Wonoayu. The finding of the researcher indicated that the tour guide technique made the students more interesting in learning English. The students can act as a tour guide well. This technique gave a different situation in the class. The students became more expressing to describe a place. It is suggested that English teacher can apply tour guide technique in the class. For students, the students must be more confident and not be afraid of making mistakes. For the reader, the finding of this research can be used as one of references for the other researcher.
