Abstract

This study explored the use of conceptual metaphors in the lyrics of the songs Aurora and Regulus by ONEWE. The purpose of this study was to identify and categorize the conceptual metaphors contained in the song lyrics using the Conceptual Metaphor Theory (CMT) framework by Lakoff and Johnson (1980). CMT explained that metaphor was not just a figurative language, but also reflected how humans understood the world through understanding abstract concepts using more concrete experiences. This study used a qualitative descriptive method to analyze the metaphors found in the selected lyrics. It focused on identifying and categorizing metaphorical expressions based on Conceptual Metaphor Theory. The results showed various types of conceptual metaphors, including structural, ontological, and orientational metaphors. Among these, ontological metaphors were the most dominant type found in the lyrics. These metaphors were used to represent complex emotional themes such as love, sadness, longing, hope, and emotional struggle, which helped express deep feelings in a poetic and symbolic way. The study found that the use of conceptual metaphors in song lyrics not only enhanced the beauty of the song, but also played an important role in conveying meaning and emotional depth. In conclusion, conceptual metaphors were an important aspect of lyric writing, connecting the literal and emotional components of language. This study contributed to the understanding of how figurative language functioned in music as a tool for expressing emotion and artistry.
