Abstract

Writing is a language skill used for indirect communication and is essential for organizing thoughts, improving written language abilities, and channelling emotions. Developing writing skills requires continuous practice and habit formation. The inquiry method is considered a solution to enhance student interaction and reduce boredom in learning to write. This research aims to describe the implementation of the inquiry method in teaching writing procedure texts and to analyze the perceptions of junior high school students regarding this method. This descriptive qualitative study was conducted at MTs YPM 1 Wonoayu with seventhgrade teachers and students as subjects. The findings revealed that when teachers provided examples, the inquiry method offered significant learning opportunities and increased student engagement. This method particularly encouraged active learning among students. Observation results indicated that the inquiry method effectively improved students' writing skills, demonstrating a significant positive impact on learning outcomes. Additionally, the study on students' perceptions showed that 96% of the responses were positive, with students perceiving the inquiry method as an effective new learning approach.
